Upcoming Programs
Family Language Drop-in
We are hoping to implement a family language drop-in style program. The team will consist of a Family Language Mentor and a Fluent Language Speaker. Our goal is to have families work with our team to identify family language goals and to build a personalized plan to support families in achieving them.
Traditional Woodworking Course
We will be implementing a traditional woodworking course. The focus will be learning the traditional practice of bentwood style woodworking. Our goal is to train local Gitxsan in this practice and have them leave the workshop with the skills and tools necessary to continue practicing in this method individually.
Warp Spinning Classes
We will be offering spinning classes in the surrounding Gitxsan communities later this year. The goal is to have applicants learn how to spin the warp needed for Chilkat weaving. The classes will be 20$ and include a kit of essential spinning supplies to successfully spin 1 ball of warp. The completion of the spinning class and 1 ball of warp is now a pre-requisite for application to future weaving programs.
Where Are Your Keys - WAYK
Our goal is to host a WAYK's training session locally to train language teachers in this method. We would like to continue shaping our current curriculum and expand our team in this language teaching method.
